| MSI Modern 14 profile |
MSI has just launched a new collection for the Business & Productivity segment. And one of the products is the MSI Modern 14 laptop which is on the Jagat Review test bench.
These devices are designed with user productivity and mobility in mind. In terms of both design and ergonomics, it's slim and light and powerful with 10th Gen Intel Core processors and a GeForce MX330 graphics card.
1. Planning
The design of MSI Modern 14 may be different from the MSI products that we often see. Coming from the Business and Productivity segment, MSI adapts this latest product with a slim and light design. Of course to support the mobility of its users.
The material used is aluminum which of course offers a light weight but remains stable. And MSi has designed the casing of this device to comply with MIL-STD 810G military standard. This product actually looks simple, similar to the MSI Prestige 14, which has a simple design and the MSI dragon logo on the back. The clamshell shape allows users to expand the screen up to 180 degrees. Available color choices are Blue Stone and Onyx Black. Both look stylish with a contrasting metallic color.
The dimensions themselves are 31.9 cm long, 22.2 cm wide and 1.69 cm thick. The weight is quite light, only 1.29 kg for a 14-inch screen. Together with the 190 gram weight adapter, users carry 1.48 kg of weight on the go.
MSI Modern 14 is equipped with a 14-inch IPS panel with Full HD (1920 x 1080) resolution. Brightness up to 300 nits and color accuracy close to 100% sRGB. This is of course suitable for light photo and video editing.
The screen bezel looks quite thin with a thickness of 5.7mm on the right and left. The screen-to-body ratio reaches 90%. The keyboard body rises about 5 degrees while the screen is open. There is a rubber bumper at the bottom of the screen.
The screen can be opened up to 180 degrees with the Flip n Share function. It means having a button (F12) to rotate the screen 180 degrees. This makes it convenient when you want to show someone else's screen.
This laptop monitor is also equipped with MSI True Color technology which can change the mode and color temperature according to usage. There are 4 presets to choose from + 1 custom preset including sRGB, Office, Film, Anti-Blue and Customize.
The frame at the top of the screen has a webcam with a resolution of 720p/30fps. In addition to audio capabilities, this laptop is equipped with two 2W stereo speakers that support the Nahimic plug-in with various sound predictions. The sound quality provided is satisfactory, not bad, but also not good.
The keyboard layout shown is similar to that of the MSI Prestige 14 keyboard. The keyboard travel is 1.5 mm, is white backlit and has 3 levels of brightness that can be adjusted with the F8 key or via the Software Center.
Although the position of the touchpad is slightly to the right of the space bar. Yes, touch is usually laptop-centric, perhaps MSI is more concerned with aesthetics over ergonomic design. In contrast to other laptops that place the touchpad exactly parallel to the space bar. The touchpad doesn't have left and right buttons, but it does support Windows Precision Driver. The connectors for the MSI Modern 14 notebook are:
1. Left
DC IN
1xHDMI
1x USB 3.1 Gen 2 Type-C
microSD card reader
1x 3.5mm combo audio jack
2xUSB2.0
