Screen
The Dell XPS 15 9520 is a great laptop that sure looks good. The all-metal frame feels sturdy and creates an attractive combination of aluminum and carbon fiber surfaces. The top and bottom are made of silver aluminum and the keyboard deck provides a striking contrast to the black carbon fiber chassis.
Thin bezels frame the screen, forming a slim 15.6-inch package. This Dell XPS 15 Laptop review weighs 4.23 pounds, which is slightly less than the Mode 16:
Among the 10 16-inch models we've seen recently are the Asus VivoBook Pro 16X OLED, the 4.35-pound MSI Summit E-16 Flip, and the 4.45-pound HP Specter x360 16.
It may be hard enough going to work every day, but who goes to the office every day? The XPS 15 9520 isn't a burden in mixed work situations, where you're sometimes at home and sometimes at the office.
However, opening the lid is a bit annoying. The lid is difficult to lift with a finger between the small lip on the edge of the lid and the sturdy hinge. I wish Dell added a folded edge to the front edge of the lid to give me a better grip when lifting the lid.
Display
The display is the star of the show, featuring two of our most popular display components:
OLED panel and 16:10 aspect ratio
With an OLED screen, you get a strong contrast ratio with deep blacks. The XPS 15 9520's display is great. According to Dell, it shows 3.5K. It is 3456 x 2160 pixels. It's slightly below 4K resolution but looks very sharp on a 15.6-inch display.
Colors are bright and accurate, and details pop in the brightest and darkest parts of the image. And its 16:10 ratio gives you more vertical space than a 16:9 widescreen display, so you can fit more of your screen and browse shorter documents and web pages. If Dell had opted for a 16-inch panel over a 15.6-inch device, I might be able to shave off an extra gram, but the screen still feels spacious enough for typical Windows multitasking and creative tasks. Dell offers two non-OLED display options with FHD+ or UHD+ resolutions. Both offer an impressive 500 nits of brightness against our OLED review unit's 400 nits rating, but our review unit was the standout. It actually measured right above where it was. I wouldn't trade a strong OLED contrast ratio for a reasonably impressive panel.
Speaker
The "A" side of the AV out may not look like the "V" side, but the Dell XPS 15 Laptop Review sounds pretty average. Dell packed four speakers into the XPS 15 9520. This is accompanied by a pair of 2.5-watt tweeters and a pair of 1.5-watt speakers for a total output of eight watts. This quartet packs a lot more power than standard laptop stereo speakers. The sound is more energetic because the highs and mids are separated, with a bass response that is rare in laptops. 1080p webcams have become popular on laptops since Zoom and other video conferencing became popular, but sadly Dell equipped the XPS 15 9520 with a 720p camera. Grainy images are distorted by noise and overexposure in the clearest parts of the image.
Keyboards
Dell XPS 15 9520 laptop review includes a full-size keyboard with no number pad. This keyboard contains unique wide keys on either side for Shift, Enter, Backspace, and Tab. The up and down arrow keys are half height but the keys are full size. I immediately felt comfortable typing on the keyboard. The keys are quiet, sensitive and have a two-stage backlight. The keyboard surface is firm without flexing, even under noisy typists' fingertips.
The buttons themselves feel soft in light traffic. I prefer sharper typing response, but I enjoy a solid keyboard that also lacks flexibility. I like the three-level backlit keyboard; This allows me to keep the light at the right level in some dark environments.
Touch pad
The large touchpad is a joy to use. The matte finish allows for a smooth ride and snap response is toned down for a precise ride. Between the large touchpad and touchscreen, you have two great options for navigating Windows.
You also have two easy ways to get into Windows. While I wish the webcam had a higher resolution, it's an infrared camera that lets you log in securely with facial recognition without a password. The power button doubles as a fingerprint reader, giving you a secure second login option.
Purpose
a rare contact. On the left are two USB-C ports with Thunderbolt 4 support. On the right is one USB-C 3.2 Gen 2 port with DisplayPort and Power Delivery support, an SD card slot, and a composite audio jack. That's about it, unless you count the adapter provided by Dell. It replaces one of the USB-C ports with a USB Type-A port and an HDMI port. Part of the cost of the sleek design is that the XPS 15 is only 0.73 inches thick, leaving the USB-A and HDMI ports unused.
Switch placement is respected but may be lost or misplaced, and port combination variations on devices may not be reproduced.
Performance
The Dell XPS 15 9520 has an Intel Core i7-12700H processor, 16GB of RAM, an RTX 3050 Ti graphics card and a 512GB SSD. The Core i7-12700H is a member of Intel's Alder Lake H series 45-watt mobile chip. The Core i7-12700H offers Intel's new hybrid architecture with essential performance and efficiency. It has six performance points, eight efficiency points, and a total of 20 processing threads.
To see how the XPS 15 9520 performs, we compared it to other top video editing laptops including the Asus VivoBook Pro 16X OLED, Acer Swift X, HP Specter x360 16, Microsoft Surface Netbook Studio, MSI Summit E-16 Flip and XPS 17 9710 on Dell. We've included a pair of MSI Katana gaming laptops with low-end RTX graphics and a Core i7-12700H processor like the XPS 15 9520. Our first benchmark is PCMark 10, which measures performance on everyday computing tasks, including office work, web browsing, and chat. videos. Both MSI Katana laptops topped the list, but the XPS 15 9520 was among the laptops that scored over 6,000, indicating they have more than enough stamina to run basic productivity programs.
Benchmarks
Our HandBrake benchmark tests how this Dell XPS 15 laptop review handles high CPU loads for long periods of time. In that case, convert a 30GB MKV file to a style suitable for Android tablets with a free video encoder. The XPS 15 9520 sits at the bottom of the pack, probably because it's the shortest mode in range. In the long term, you'll move away from larger netbooks that have less and less thermal limitations.
Processor
Then there's Cinebench, another CPU-intensive test that generates complex 2D loops in seconds. In this shorter test, the XPS 15 9520 excels, taking second place behind the MSI Katana GF66.
This isn't a gaming laptop, but since it has RTX graphics, we decided to see how it would perform with our dual parameter 3D graphics and gaming. It finished bottom of the field in 3DMark's Spy Time Test and was one of three mechanics not to break the 4,000 mark. However, there are about 4,000 of them and there is nothing to be ashamed of.
The best test of 3D games against synthetic 3D benchmarks is 3D gaming, so we created two 3D game benchmarks, Rise of the Tomb Raider and Metro Exodus. That's an average 60 fps run in Rise of the Tomb Raider running at 1080p on the game's Very High preset. Speeds peaked at just 16 fps on the more demanding Metro Exodus, but none of the netbooks we tested with RTX 3050 or 3050 Ti graphics managed to come close to 60 frames per second on Metro Exodus at these settings. The RTX 3060-based Dell XPS 17 didn't hit even half of 60 fps in testing.
In our Dell XPS 15 Laptop Review, we played 4K video on battery power using Windows 11 Movies and TV with the netbook set to Airplane Style and headphones on. Great brightness for watching movies in the office with fluorescent lighting. The Summit E-16 Flip runs out of power in less than six hours per minute, which is below average. Using a higher resolution screen reduces battery life, and that's exactly what you get with the XPS 15 9520.
Superior OLEDs
The Dell XPS 15 9520 Laptop Review has good things to offer content creators with its rugged, beautiful body, eye-catching OLED display, and competitive performance with the latest Intel silicon graphics and GeForce RTX. It might be a bit heavy for the occasional commute, but office workers looking for a productivity device with a sophisticated design and a large screen will find what they're looking for in the XPS 15 9520. However, keep in mind that this may not be the case. on a day trip, as I've come to expect from Dell. The panel extends the screen to 0.16 inches 16:10
The RTX 3050 Ti's graphics help with its multimedia capabilities, but its use is limited to 3D gaming. If you want to combine work and gaming PCs in one device, you need to look elsewhere. Maybe, find a high-end RTX GPU for less than an RTX 3050 Ti-based testbed on another laptop, but you have to risk the OLED panel and settle for the sub-3.5K resolution that the XPS 15 9520 has to offer. .
