Powered by a 10th Generation Intel Core processor and NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1650 Ti GPU, this Acer Nitro 5 laptop is able to keep temperatures down to maintain the highest possible performance.
Apart from that, this laptop also comes with a memory expansion option which is rarely owned by other laptops in its price range.
The Acer Nitro 5 has a kitchen runway in the form of an Intel Core i7-10750H with the codename Comet Lake, with 14nm fabrication, 45W TDP and 6-core/12-thread. The processor has a 12 megabyte smart cache with a base frequency of 2.6 GHz and a maximum turbo frequency of 5.0 GHz.
This processor also supports Intel TVB Frequency (Thermal Velocity Boost).
The memory uses 8 GB DDR4-2933 single channel SODIMM memory. The laptop also has 2 SO-DIMM slots that support up to 32GB capacity. In this test, we upgraded to 16GB dual channel and 2 8GB chips.
A 512 GB PCIe NVMe SSD serves as storage, which also has a second PCIe NVMe SSD slot.
There's also 2.5" SATA storage bays, for which SATA cables are included in the retail package. It's rare for a gaming laptop in its price range to support three storages, which are typically found in much higher-priced high-end gaming laptops. The laptop's GPU uses The NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1650Ti 4GB GDDR6 with 1024 CUDA cores has a Base 1350MHz and Boost 1485MHz, while the IGP uses Intel UHP Graphics which remains active to extend battery life and supports features like Intel Quick Sync.
The Acer Nitro 5 body uses polycarbonate material with the typical Acer Nitro body structure and curves. The surface of the case is "Metal Brush Finish" and has an updated design of the back of the screen with indentations surrounding the Acer logo. NITRO stands between the two outlets.
With a matte black finish and red trim between the two rear vents, this gaming PC measures 14.3" x 10.2" x 9.25". The laptop itself weighs 2.17 kg, the charger weighs 345 grams.
The main screen of the laptop measures 15.6 inches with Full HD (1920 x 1080) resolution, 144 Hz refresh rate and IPS panel with 250 nits brightness and 45% NTSC color gamut. The screen is anti-glare, which Acer calls "CineCrystal", and has thin bezels on the left and right, measuring 2.02mm thick. Meanwhile, the top bezel is still quite thick to support a 720p@30fps -Record webcam.
Laptop audio uses two 2 watt speakers located at the bottom left and right of the laptop. Acer offers DTS-X Ultra software to change audio predictions.
The ports on the grid side of the laptop include 1 x Kensington Lock, 1 x Ethernet, 2 x USB 3.1 Gen 1 and 1 x Audio Jack Combo. The right side has 1 x USB 3.1 Gen 2 Type-C, 1 x USB 3.1 Gen 2 and 1 x HDMI 2.0. And there's a DC-in port on the back. The laptop connection uses Intel Wi-Fi AX201 which supports Wi-Fi 6, MU-MIMO, Gigabit Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 5.1.
The Acer Nitro 5 has a full sized keyboard with a number pad on the right. The arrow keys are still large, and there is a special button to open the NitroSense software. The power button merges with the keyboard layout in the top right corner. And the WASD keys are marked with white squares for easy differentiation. 1.6mm travel, 4 areas RGB backlighting.
The backlight can be adjusted with 4 levels of brightness while the RGB is set using the NitroSense software.
The laptop touchpad is aligned with the space bar and a red line surrounds the touchpad area. The touchpad lacks right and left click buttons and is supported by Windows Precision Driver.
